APEC Port Services Network (APSN) announced that Hutchison Ports Thailand (HPT) won the Green Port Award System 2022 (GPAS).
The Council of the APSN recognized the high calibre and excellent environmental actions and leadership demonstrated by all recipients. As one of the winners, HPT’s efforts exemplify the commitments and contributions to environmental responsibility and a more sustainable maritime industry.

Moving forward, HPT will continue its commitment to being a Green Terminal. By the end of this year, the company plans to introduce a new fleet of electric trailers which will be added to the electric-powered equipment already in operation at the terminal, such as remote-controlled cranes and autonomous trucks. On October 26, 2022, Mr Stephen Ashworth, Managing Director of Hutchison Ports Thailand, and Mr Anat Machima, Chief Operating Officer, welcomed H.E. Atirat Rattanaset, Deputy Minister of Transport, and Mr Kriengkrai Chaisiriwongsuk, General Director of Port Authority of Thailand (PAT) together with the management team at Terminal D, Hutchison Ports Thailand.The visiting officials observed HPT’s autonomous trucks showcase. The autonomous trucks are equipped with advanced technology, improving operation safety at HPT’s Terminal D at Laem Chabang Port.
19 October 2022 Hutchison Ports Thailand (HPT) has moved forward in its smart port transformation with the arrival of a further nine new autonomous trucks to add to the existing fleet of six. The driverless electric trucks will further improve safety and service levels at HPT’s Terminal D at Laem Chabang Port and will align with HPT’s advanced technology roadmap. HPT’s Terminal D is one of the most advanced container terminals in the world and is the first container terminal globally to successfully implement mixed traffic mode terminal operations. Since 2020, the existing fleet of six autonomous trucks have already moved 120,000 containers within Terminal D.
On September 29, 2022, Mr. Stephen Ashworth, the Managing Director of Thailand and South East Asia, Hutchison Ports, was invited to participate in the Faculty of International Maritime Studies, Kasetsart University, Sriracha Campus’ ceremony of dressing up & decorating the uniform to mark the academic year 2022.
Mr. Ashworth was honoured to be a guest speaker and address the topic of “NEW TECHNOLOGIES FOR GREENER SHIPPING”, which reflects the need to support a green transition of the maritime sector into a sustainable future – showcasing marine innovation, research and development, and the deployment of new technologies.
Hutchison Ports Thailand’s association with International Maritime Studies, Kasetsart University, began in August 2020 to provide more structured research, internship and career-related support for students.
On September 13, 2022, Hutchison Ports Thailand (HPT) held an annual CSR activity, ‘Green School 2022’, at Banklongpring School, a primary school located in Kaset Suwan, Bo Thong, Chonburi province, Thailand. The annual CSR activity consists of offering sponsor scholarships, improving the school’s facilities, creating a green space, and planting various trees with the students.
Additionally, employees of HPT and students from the Faculty of International Maritime Studies of Kasetsart University Sriracha Campus worked together to upcycle items that were given to the school. This portion of the CSR activity aimed to encourage waste minimization and create environmental awareness to promote sustainability.
On September 8th, 2022, Hutchison Ports Thailand recently donated two electric beds with full side rails to the ICU Ward.
The donation was made by Mr. Stephen Ashworth, Managing Director of Hutchison Ports Thailand.
The donation was graciously received by Somkiat Leelapanpaiboon, President of the Medical Organization and medical professions from Banbung Hospital in the Chonburi province.
The competition, which garnered 56 submissions, involved crafting new objects out of reused materials. It aimed to encourage the practices of recycling and upcycling as means of waste minimization to achieve long-term sustainability.
The resulting crafts will be donated to Banklongpring School, Chonburi, as part of September’s upcoming ‘Green School 2022’ CSR activity.
On August 24, 2022, Hutchison Ports Thailand, represented by Mr. Stephen Ashworth, Managing Director, and Mr. Anat Machima, Chief Operating Officer,
made a donation to fund the purchase of defibrillators and other medical appliances for Laem Chabang Hospital’s ICU wards.
Dr. Ramase Ampaipis, Director, Dr.Jirasak Jirakulsawas, Deputy Director and Professional Level (K2) Nurse Yaowaluk Somsangune accepted the donation on behalf of Laem Chabang Hospital.
Aug 1st , 2022; Hutchison Ports Thailand is very pleased to welcome the first call of Mediterranean Shipping (Thailand) Co., Ltd. (MSC) PERTIWI service at Terminal C1-C2, Laem Chabang Port.This Intra-Asia service will provide a fast and direct link from North Asia and Thailand onto Jakarta in Indonesia.
As of July 11, 2022, Hutchison Ports Thailand’s six autonomous trucks operating at Terminal D successfully handled over 100,000 moves of containers – a milestone that reflects the group’s commitment to sustainable port development.
Autonomous trucks offer a safe and environment-friendly container-handling solution by using electric power, which is part of the group’s Zero-Emission policy.
