On March 25, 2022, Mr. Stephen Ashworth, Managing Director of Thailand & South East Asia, Hutchison Ports, presided over the signing ceremony for the construction of the remaining phases of Terminal D (Phase 2) together with Mr. Polpat Karnasuta, Director and Chief Executive Officer, Nawarat Patanakarn Public Company Limited. The management teams of both companies were also present at the signing ceremony at the Terminal D Visitor Centre. Terminal D Phase 2 will comprise additional stacking area for dry and reefer containers, automated trucking gates, a new engineering workshop and an administration building. Construction will commence in April 2022 and will be completed within 3 years. On full completion, Terminal D will have a handling capacity of 3.5 million TEU and will be equipped with a fleet of autonomous and electric trucks together with 17 super post panamax ship to shore cranes and 43 rubber tyred yard cranes, all remote control and electrically operated. Hutchison Ports Thailand’s Terminal D is the world’s first dual-traffic container terminal simultaneously operating with autonomous and conventional trucks.
